Royal Star Magnolia is called "royal" because of its elegant appeal that made it an award-winning among the Magnolia trees. It has received the highly distinguished "Award of Garden Merit" from the Royal Horticultural Society. This striking deciduous small tree or shrub is multi-stemmed with a star-like white flower that has an overwhelming 25 to 30 tepals. Its flowers bloom during late-Winter to early-Spring, before the new glossy green leaves begin to emerge. The Star Magnolia can reach a maximum height of 20 inches with a width of 15 inches as it ages. It loves full sun and best grown in naturally rich, moist, lightly acidic and well-drained soils. It is ideal for cottage and city gardens. It has experience no serious pest problems or diseases. It also doesn't require regular pruning because of its naturally good structure.
