Summer Sweet Clethra is a dazzling, slow-growing shrub that lures hummingbirds and butterflies. It is also known as Coastal Sweetpepperbush. It can be utilized as a naturalizing plant and specimen, as well as for mass plantings, hedging and borders. It has an oblong-shaped, green foliage that changes to golden yellow during Fall. It also blooms pretty, white to pale pink flowers with a quite strong aroma that entices bumblebees during Summer. It bears fruits that has an indistinct likeness to peppercorns. It grows best in moist and well-drained soils. Its maximum height can reach up to 5 to 8 feet and its width is up to 4 to 6 feet. It has an incredible tolerance to diseases and insects. It loves full sun and can tolerate full shade. It is also notable for receiving two awards, a gold medal from The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society and the Award of Garden Merit from Royal Horticultural Society.
