Black Walnut is a magnificent deciduous tree from the walnut family and a significant commercial tree because of its wood. Its wood is famous among woodworkers because of its amazing strength, resistance to shock and dimensional stability. It is used to make furniture, interior panels, cabinets, veneer, gunstocks and other wooden things. It also yields delicious nuts during Fall. Its heartwood is light brown to dark chocolate brown, sometimes with a purple, grey and red tinge. Its sapwood is light, yellowish gray to almost white. Remember to put enough space in between this tree and other plants since its roots contain a toxic substance. But not all plants are affected by the poison. Black Walnut's maximum height and weight can reach up to 75 feet. It is best grown in moist and well-drained soils.
